Dangerous Play

Sports reporter Kate Green’s next harrowing story, where a famous former teammate is found murdered, and the only way to close her case is to open up old wounds

After a tumultuous murder case that almost cost more than her job, sports reporter Kate Green is back on assignment covering women’s Olympic soccer. Between her experience with athletic stardom and days playing with Savannah Baker, head coach of the USA team, Kate is sure to get the story that will reestablish her career.

She just didn’t expect that story to involve murder.

When famous jewelry designer Alexa Kane is found dead in the locker room, Kate’s promising future screeches to a halt as her past resurfaces. Alexa played with Kate and Savannah on the U.S. Youth National Team, but there was no reason for her to be at the stadium now.

Kate’s investigation puts her in close contact with her estranged father, an NYPD detective who has his own past to answer for. As their secrets collide, Kate will have to decide which ones to keep—and which ones to reveal to stop the killer.

"Who done it?"/ ..a must read to the very end- I was intrigued by the background setting of a Pro Sports Team and being privy to a lot of what goes on behind the scenes. The "who done it" aspect of her novel was so well done. Pretty much from the first few chapters forward, Kipness had me, her reader chalking up one suspect after another of the murder victim. I was " roped in" and didn't put my Kindle down even in the middle of the night with no power after several horrendous storms hit and we were without power for four days. I' highly recommend this book!

Kidnapping at the U.S. Open ✨This is the third book in the Kate Green series. These books do need to be read in order. I binged this series in one weekend and have equally enjoyed each story. This story centers around a kidnapping at the U.S. Open. A fast-paced mystery that I flew through. I highly recommend this series if you like crime thrillers set in sports settings.

Great Sports themed Murder Mystery I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to continuing the series. I thought it was a fast-paced read with short chapters that I finished within 24 hours. I really enjoyed the FMC and liked that the story was told from her perspective as a sports journalist and retired athlete. The setting and the murder mystery we’re interesting and kept me guessing until the end. Can’t wait to see where this series goes.

I thought I had it figured out... I didn'tI thought I had it figured out... I didn't Kate Green is back… and thankfully, so is her appetite. I was relieved to see Elise Hart Kipness didn’t suddenly put her on a salad diet.Once again, the mystery had me guessing from start to finish. I was convinced I’d figured it out, only to discover I was wrong. The surprises were genuinely surprising, which is becoming one of my favorite things about this series.I also have to admit, I was happy to see Kate finally get a little something something along the way. It was about time!Another fast, entertaining read with characters I continue to enjoy. Now it’s on to the next Kate Green mystery. Right?

She can eat anything she wants, parent teens, and solve crimes? Sign me up.She can eat anything she wants, parent teens, and solve crimes? Sign me up. You’ve gotta love, or completely resent, a main character who can demolish pancakes drowning in syrup, juicy burgers, and greasy grilled cheese without a second thought. Love her… or hate her. Mostly, I was busy cursing Kate Green’s obvious hotness while she ate like a linebacker. Then add the fact that she’s athletic and a TV news reporter, two things that are right in my wheelhouse, and I was hooked.I’ve grown to love Kate Green, the former soccer pro turned TV news reporter and single mom of two teenagers. More than once I caught myself saying, “Come on, Kate… even I figured that out!” But that’s exactly what makes her such a fun protagonist. She isn’t perfect, and that’s what makes her feel real. I had to keep turning the pages to see when she’d connect the dots.I met Elise Hart Kipness at a book signing where she was joining another author friend. Over pizza afterward, I told her I’d buy her book someday. I’m so glad I did.The characters are engaging, the plotlines weave together beautifully, and the pacing kept me reading well past bedtime. And now, if Kate doesn’t end up with David, I may have words for Elise.Fortunately, I already bought the next book, so I’m about to find out.

Best of the Series This series gets better with each book. Moves along at a good pace. The story holds your interest, and the recurring characters are likeable. Kate's relationship with her dad reaches a milestone, and a new love interest surfaces. This book will stand alone just fine, but you will find the first two enjoyable if you want to read them prior. These books don't require a heavy lift and are not going to creep you out. Just good, solid, fun reads. Try them.

A complicated puzzle, with a heroine you want to succeed. I do not often read thrillers. My vivid imagination is quite capable of stressing me out. However, I was drawn to the idea of a female sports reporter and after reading the sample for the first book, jumped in. I liked this one a lot, although I had to take breaks for the sake of calmness. The book blurb sets this up pretty well. A female player is kidnapped during a major tennis event, and another very young player is contacted for ransom. Who has done the kidnapping, and why is unclear, but our intrepid reporter has been meeting with both women for a story, and so is drawn in as a resource to help figure out who what and why. And hopefully to find the connection to retrieve the woman in jeopardy while she is still alive. The ticking clock, and the fact that the kidnapped woman seems to be a decent person provide plenty of suspense, and the unwinding reason for all of this proves believable enough to provide a satisfying resolution. And our intrepid reporter shows her merit both in skill and character. I am always appreciative when I find a character I can really like. Anything to support my hopes for humanity are sincerely appreciated.I can’t tell if this is the end of the series or not. Some parts of the characters arc are completed in this book, much to my satisfaction. So this could wind up neatly at three books, or find another problem to continue on with. Either way, I am glad to have read the three existing books. Thanks for the affirmation that people I can cheer on still exist.

A fantastic thriller set in the world of professional tennis! Close Call is a mystery that takes place in the professional tennis world. Everyone is in New York because it's the end of summer and the beginning of the U.S. Open tennis tournament. Kate Green is in New York to write a story on the 2 biggest female tennis players for a weekly tv show. She's a famous sports reporter who used to be an Olympic athlete so she has the respect of those she interviews. One of the women is young and just finding success while the other is a successful veteran player. As Kate is getting to know them, their coaches, and their families everything takes a turn when one of the girls goes missing.Kate was the last to see the young woman the night before she went missing. She left a message for her team that she was pulling out of the tournament and needed some time. The timing seems off to Kate and those around the player. Why now? Why come to the tournament at all? While Kate is interviewing the other player, the player receives a text message that really upsets her. It's a photo of the other woman who is missing and she's bound and gagged. Why are they sending this photo to the other player? Someone has taken the woman so that she couldn't compete. Kate contacts her father who is an NYPD detective to get help with the case.As the investigation grows, threats and demands are made by the kidnapper. Who would do this and why? The kidnapper seems to have information that will destroy the family if it gets out. As many people could be responsible you will have a hard time figuring this one out. I thought I knew who was behind it, but a big twist put me back to guessing again. Close Call is a fantastic thriller that I enjoyed reading, especially because it revolved around the U.S. Open which is just beginning now. If you love a good mystery, Close Call is out now. I rate Close Call 4 stars with a high recommendation. This book keeps you on your toes and just when you think you. have it figured out, you don't! I love hard to solve mysteries. #CloseCall

Maybe I read... ...too much, but I could see the first part of the "big reveal" before the book was even halfway through, and the rest not too long after that. But even with that being said, it's still a pretty good read, with some refreshingly atypical characterizations (wait, teenagers who *aren't* constantly sullen, mopey, and difficult? How is that even possible...).

A binge-able, addictive crime thriller that was an utter home run! For the second time, Elise Hart Kipness blew me away. After falling in love with her smart, savvy main character in her debut novel, Lights Out, I was even more bowled over by both Kate and Kipness thanks to what I found inside of Dangerous Play. A binge-able, addictive crime thriller, the dual timelines and even pacing meant for one altogether rollicking good time. The former, in fact, was quite the ingenious method of bringing the victim to life. And through her, Kate’s character grew deeper and delightfully well-developed.While I was wholly won over by the unguessable twists and perfectly timed plot, the characters were easily my favorite piece to this marvelous whodunnit. Running the gamut from thoroughly unlikeable to one of my most-loved protagonists, the finely layered personas hit just the right chord. Through the past and present timelines and some realistic diary entries, Kate was revealed to be even more dogged, clever, and brave than she was in book one. Supported by some other truly top-notch individuals, the entire cast was an utter home run.Now that I’ve finished bingeing the second book in what is turning out to be one humdinger of a series, I’m not surprised in the least about how my friends and colleagues at Thriller Book Lovers: The Pulse have been raving about it ever since we got the galleys. With an intriguing subplot, deliciously short chapters, and a heaping dose of suspense, it just couldn’t have been better. Now for my impatient wait for book three so that I can learn what is coming next in Kate’s saga with Liam. So order your copy today. Just be sure to start with book one. After all, you don’t want to miss a minute with Kate. Rating of 5 stars.

Good series This is the second book in this series and only my second read by this author. I like the characters, the twists and the developing relationships. I shame the editor for not catching subtle flaws. The first book Kate entered “codes” of her kids birthdays. They are twins one shared birthday. Could be they were born minutes apart before and after midnight but that was never established. This book, Kate gets into “my” car after it was established she was borrowing David’s car. Minor details but non the less details! Will it stop me from reading more books by this author or in the series, No! But those of us that are avid readers of this genre do pay attention to detail!.

Women in Sports-Finally! Growing up in the 50's & 60's, the only sports for girls was tennis & cheerleading. That was a very limited experience, so the rest of us got to watch & cheer on the boys. I know many of us would have been good athletes! That is why these stories are so appealing & fascinating to me. They are written from a woman athlete's point of view and from her real times in sports. This is all new to me & Wow, just great to read about. Also the stories hold your interest, good mysteries, good characters, facing real problems in life. And a really excellent point I truly appreciate, the storyline is straightforward, the characters aren't whining about their doubts and fears. There is not page after page of coulda, shoulda, misery going on & on, interfering with the storyline! These stories about Kate green are good reads!

I’ve been anxiously awaiting book 2!! I read book 1 as a free Amazon First Reads selection and loved it, so I have been anxiously awaiting book 2 ever since. I have to say it did not disappoint! I liked that a small part of the back story from book 1 continued into book 2 and became an even bigger part of the sub-plot here; however, the main focus was a whole separate plot point with some mini sub-plots. I liked having that little bit of continuity along with the new drama. It kept book 2 fresh and interesting, so much so I finished the book in less than 24 hours through a combo of reading and Audible (thanks Kindle Unlimited for the free download with Audible!). I wholeheartedly recommend both book 1 and 2 from this author!

great book but….. Loved the book. It moved along quickly and had a few good twists. The characters were believable and (mostly) likable. But the ending was not what I expected or wanted, thus only four stars.

I couldn't put it down! Yes, I believe this is better than the first book. You hit the ground running from the beginning with suspense and mystery. The twist at the end is truly shocking. Who would jave thought! This is a must-read, and I hope there is another book in the series to come.

You won’t regret it! I’ll be honest—Dangerous Play by Elise Hart Kipness didn’t grab me right away, but it definitely improved! It explores the world of pro sports and reporting while featuring a main character facing various… obstacles. Once the story picks up, it builds suspense and keeps you curious about what’s going to happen next. Definitely check it out and give it a chance, you won’t regret it!

Fantastic read from my fave author TITLE: DANGEROUS PLAYAUTHOR: Elise Hart KipnessPUB DATE: 09.17.2024I loved LIGHTS OUT and to be back with my favorite sports reporter and amateur sleuth Kate Green - this time covering women’s Olympic soccer, also my favorite, is such an exciting read for me. I loved getting to know Kate Green better as her instincts kick in to solve the murder of Alexa Kane someone she had ties with in the past. We also get a glimpse of Kate’spast with her estranged father, an NYPD detective. The tight plotting, clever and gripping storyline, really established Kipness as a thriller author to watch. One of my favorite series so far.

Can't wait for next book! I absolutely adored Kate Green in Lights Out and was so excited to see her again in Dangerous Play. As a former soccer player, we get a lot more background about Kate in this book. As someone who wanted to be a sports journalist, I love getting to read about one - especially in a mystery setting. I really enjoyed the storyline and couldn’t put it down. It had a good amount of perfectly placed twists and turns. This is a series, but you could read it as a standalone and would be fine, but I highly recommend reading Lights Out first. I’m so excited to see what’s next for Kate!⚽️ Mystery / Thriller⚽️ Soccer⚽️ Short Chapters / Dual Timeline⚽️ Book 2 in Series⚽️ Police Procedural

Addictive thriller Dangerous PlayElise Hart Kipness 4.5/5 starsY’all this one was an incredible who done it crime thriller. This one was quite addictive, I couldn’t put it down. With the thrilling roller coaster, like twist and turns throughout. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat while also flipping the pages with anticipation. The FMC Kate is a sports reporter. I became so twisted up in this story, because she was such a great character. Kate was headstrong and determined. The dual timelines were so well written. If you are a sports/soccer fan, police procedure and or crime thriller fan. You will love this one.

My favorite of the Kate Green series so far. I haven’t really ever been one to follow soccer but I loved it as the sport focus here. The personal connection Kate had not only with the sport but some people involved pulled me into the investigation. The dual timeline really helped the reader get to know Kate even more. It was fast paced from the start and I liked the amount of reporting that was shown. The dynamic between her and her father got stronger and I liked the way Kate worked through the facts she uncovered.

A suspenseful sports thriller It was great being back on the beat with sports reporter and amateur sleuth Kate Green. Kate, who was once a soccer player, is now assigned to cover the women’s Olympic soccer team. But when a member of the team is found dead, who happened to be a former teammate of Kate’s, secrets from the past get brought into the light. This intriguing, fast-paced, and suspenseful sports thriller keeps you turning the pages. The use of dual timelines and the victim’s diary draws you right into these women's lives and pulls back the veil on competitive sports.Kate is strong and intelligent, even if she seems to get into dangerous situations. Her authenticity makes her relatable, and I enjoyed getting to know her in 𝐿𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑠 𝑂𝑢𝑡 and now more so in this book. I look forward to seeing what’s next for her in this exciting series.

Full of characters you love to hate Full of characters you love to hate as well deserved from mean girl soccer players and coaches to Communication CEO's and their families. Alexa Kane was destroyed because of people like this. Kate and her father Liam finally get to the bottom of it in a surprise ending that seems like justice served. My second book by this author and I have already added the 3rd book that is set to release in fall 2025 to my reading list. Give her a try.**one con: the vulgar language was unnecessary and didn't add anything to the book in my opinion. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

Fun mystery set in the Olympics Sports reporter and former soccer Olympian Kate Green is back in Dangerous Play. I really adored this character in Elise Hart Kipness’s debut novel, Lights Out, and loved Kate even more in this new novel.Kate has been assigned to cover the women’s soccer team as they play in the summer Olympics which are being held in New York. When Kate is interviewing the USA team in the locker room, she discovers the body of the famous jewelry designer Alexa Kane, who also happened to be her best friend years ago when they were in their teens.Kate once again is a force of nature and stops at nothing to find out who was responsible for the murder of her old friend. The story goes back and forth between the present and Kate’s investigation into Alexa’s murder, and the past as the friendship between Kate and Alexa and the events back then are slowly revealed. This intriguing mystery kept me turning the pages late into the night as I had to know!I really enjoyed seeing behind the scenes of both the world of reporting and the Olympic Games and the players.I can’t wait to see what Elise Hart Kipness writes next. I hope we get more Kate Green.

Page turner I was happy to catch up with Kate Green in the second book of her series. This could definitely be read as a stand alone but she’s an awesome character so I recommend reading both books. Both are a great mix of journalism, sports, mystery plus some family drama. I love that Kate’s background as an olympic soccer star factors into her career as a journalist and it was really interesting to read more about her soccer training as a teen as she prepared for the Olympics. Just like the first book, I was hooked right out of the gate and once again the twists kept me guessing until the end. And the ending makes me hopeful that this series will continue!

Soccer Mystery I love the premise of this series in that its sports themed mysteries. This is Book 2 in the Kate Green series and I really wish I had read Book 1 first. But I was still able to get a good picture of what happened in the prior book which I will go back and read now. I was pleasantly surprised by the Jewish rep in this book as well. As for the actual murder mystery, I thought it was well written. The way it played out was something I guessed at earlier in the book but not the actual culprit. The murder solved around the 90% mark which is interesting. There was a secondary mystery as a subplot and that goes on a bit longer than the main mystery.I like the character of Kate Green and also love that she's an older protagonist than a lot of these types of books focus on. I hope future books explore more of her love life as well.

a great addition to the series Everyone’s favorite sports reporter is back and covering women’s soccer at the Olympics. I really liked Lights Out and was excited to learn it’s a series. Amateur sleuths are usually in cozy mysteries, but this series has a little more suspense and thrill than your normal cozy. It’s hard not to like Kate as she stumbles onto these murders then works to clear her name and save her job. I liked the dual timeline linking Kate to both the murder and the suspects. Those twists got me. The intertwined story with Kate as a teenager worked seamlessly with the current story and kept me wanting more. I usually like one storyline over another, but I liked both equally and wasn’t disappointed when the story flipped back and forth. This could easily be read as a stand alone, but you’ll understand Kate more if read together with Lights Out. Amazon lists a third book in the series and I cannot wait to read it.Chanté McCormick is the narrator and did a great job. She kept the pace up and brought Kate and her story to life. Both young and present Kate.

RECOMMEND! A digital copy of this book was provided to me by NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own and freely given. This book is #2 in the Kate Green Series and as soon as I finished, I was wanting to read book #3, (spoiler alert, it's not out yet). This book was so good. I will not lie, that I was reluctant to read this book/series. I am not a huge sports fan, basketball (book #1) & soccer are really down there on the sports I can tolerate. That being said, I am so happy I read this book. First of all, Kate is a former soccer player turned sportscaster. Her father. Liam is a detective with NYPD, so investigating crimes are in her blood. When a woman is found murdered at the Olympics in New York and Kate was a former friend/teammate of this woman, it hits close to home, and she does all she can to "assist" the police and find out who the killer is.This was a super-fast read; I couldn't put it down. And I am anxiously waiting for #3.I really like the way these stories are told because you have the murder, the investigation and there always seems to be something else suspicious going on in Kate's life. I highly recommend this book and series for that matter.

Dangerous Play I enjoyed this suspenseful story about Kate Green, a sports reporter for a TV station. She was a player on a soccer national team that won an Olympic gold medal when she was younger. As a reporter she is covering the current team moving toward an Olympic playoff. A former team mate and friend, Alexa Kane, is murdered during the game halftime that Kate is reporting on. Kate's father is the policeman in charge of the investigation. Kate works with him to solve the murder. I highly recommend this for readers who enjoy sports related stories and a mystery with high suspense. I received this book through a Goodreads giveaway and this is my voluntary and honest review.

In one of the games, Alexa, one of Kate's best friends when she was in the Olympic Soccer team, is found dead in the stadium. Kate will team with her father and investigate Alexa's murder to bring the justice to her family and to settle their past. Intense sports thriller! Kate Green is back for the second book in the series. Dangerous Play can easily be read as a stand-alone, although reading book one enhanced my reading experience seeing Kate and her relationships develop. As a sports reporter, Kate is covering women’s Olympic soccer at Yankee Stadium. There’s a lot of drama with the team and also with Kate’s employer. When a body is found in the stadium, Kate can’t help herself but to investigate parallel to law enforcement.I loved the fast pace and mysterious red herrings that unfolded in this action-thriller. Kate Green #2 is another good one… I enjoyed Elise Hart Kipness's Lights Out and this sequel about sports reporter Kate Green is really good too. The Olympics are taking place in New York City and Kate is covering women's soccer - something she knows a lot about because she played on the USA women's national team, One of Kate's former teammates, Savannah (Savy) Baker, is now the head coach of the USA team. Alexa Kane is a famous jewelry designer who's also a former teammate of Kate and Savy. When Alexa is found dead in one of the stadium's locker room areas, Savy and Kate are two of the three people who first find her body. But why was Alexa at the stadium and who would want to kill her? To investigate Alexa's murder, Kate once again has to cross paths with her estranged father Liam, an NYPD detective. In Lights Out, Kate became suspicious of an incident in Liam's past when he was shot and badly wounded. Despite his warnings to leave it alone, she continues to dig into the story. With everyone harboring secrets from the past, Kate puts herself in danger to try to get to the truth about Alexa and also about Liam. I look forward to book #3 in this series and definitely recommend reading Lights Out and Dangerous Play.

Dangerous Play Former Olympic soccer player, Kate Green, is now a reporter on assignment covering the US Olympic soccer games. She had previous experience playing with the coach, Savannah Baker, so she hopes this will be a career changing story. However, the story takes a different turn when Alexa Kane, a famous jewelry designer who also played with Kate and Savannah, is found dead and Kate’s past and present suddenly collide, making this a page turning whodunnit murder mystery! This book is the second one in the series but can totally be read as a standalone. I enjoyed the dual timeline. It really showed just how much the girls went through to make it as Olympic players and it gives a glimpse into the past relationship dynamics between Kate, Savannah and Alexa. I loved Kate’s character and her determination to get justice for Alexa and make up for past mistakes. As she works with her estranged father who is a police detective, she tries to uncover the truth, and in doing so, realizes more than one person has been keeping secrets. Why was Alexa even there in the first place and who would want her dead? This is a page-turner with short chapters which make it so easy to read! If you love a good murder mystery, give this one a try and find out just what happened to Alexa!

Clever and compelling! Lights Out was such a solid and fast-paced story, I’ve been looking forward to catching up with Kate Green in book two, Dangerous Play. I enjoyed the second book just as much.Kate Green is a sports reporter. Her current assignment is women’s Olympic soccer. She has ties to the sport and the team as well, so she’s hoping to land her next great story. What she lands is another story involving a murder when someone is found dead in the locker room, and the she knows the victim from her past soccer days. Kate begins an investigation that has her digging into her own past, too.Dangerous Play is so clever. I don’t think you have to read book to enjoy book two, but I am grateful I’ve read both. I think having a sports reporter also become an amateur sleuth works so very well because she can use her reporter instincts to ask the right questions and piece things together. Overall, Dangerous Play is quite the exciting read, and I’m ready for book three!I received a gifted copy.

Twisty Tale This book has a fascinating storyline full of unexpected twists and turns, with elements of intrigue, suspense, and mystery that will keep you engaged until the very end.I recommend starting with the first book, Lights Out, to better understand the character's background. However, it's still easy to follow the story without it.Kate is covering women's Olympic soccer. With her experience and days playing with head coach Savannah Baker, Kate is sure to get the story to reestablish her career. She just didn’t expect that story to involve murder. When famous jewelry designer Alexa Kane is found dead in the locker room, Kate’s promising future screeches to a halt as her past resurfaces. Kate feels guilty about what happened to Alexa and believes she failed her when she needed her the most. Determined to repair the past, Kate is on a mission to find out who killed Alexa. The story follows a timeline or back-and-forth approach to provide a better understanding of the characters and the story, but it is easy to follow... This is a great read and the author did a fantastic job...I would like to read more, especially in this series.Content, mention of child abuse, bully and rape.

After the game while she was in the girl’s locker room interviewing the players, a women’s body was found dead in the ice bath. So, we are off with new characters and a new murder mystery, first twist the dead women was a past team mate. We see Kate as a reporter, a mom, a daughter, and a friend. I love the relationship she has with her kids, and Liam her dad. This story with all of its twists and turns captivated me from start to finish.

Fantastic follow up I’ve been waiting for the second book in this series to come out and I’m so glad it’s finally here. I’m only a few chapters in and I’m already hooked. Kate is such a compelling character and I’m excited to learn more about her past.

A riveting glimpse into high stakes sports reporting I’ve been waiting patiently for this next installment, and I wasn’t disappointed. Elise is definitely in her element with this book which takes us behind the scenes of the Olympics and delves further into Kate’s past as an elite athlete. It’s the kind of exclusive access that only someone who’s been there can give. I can’t wait for more stories in her world.

Gripping 📖📖 Book Review 📖📖 This is always a judgment free zone so no worries if you are still missing the excitement of the Olympics because Elise Hart Kipness is keeping it going! While I am by no means a sports fanatic, I appreciate the enthusiasm and it is captured wonderfully in Dangerous Play. What unfolds is a beautifully written, gripping story that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with stakes higher than an intense overtime in a soccer game because Kate’s former teammate is found dead. Kipness leaves no stone unturned in her detailed accounts documented in this captivating novel, which aligns perfectly with Kate’s journalistic background. Dangerous Play is a proper banger of a novel, perfectly combining the fandom of soccer with a delectable murder mystery!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

A fantastic follow up Elise Hart Kipness proves she is no one hit wonder. Dangerous Play, her sophomore book will be another fabulous success. I absolutely loved her debut Lights Out but dare I say this one might be even better?Elise has created an amazing character, Kate Green, a sports reporter who does am amazing job as an informal detective, solving crimes and getting herself in sticky situations along the way.

A solid read and a good story. Dangerous Play by Elise Hart Kipness is book 2 in the Kate Green series. I did read book 1, but Dangerous Play could be read as a standalone book. After a tumultuous murder case that almost cost more than her job, sports reporter Kate Green is back on assignment covering women’s Olympic soccer. When famous jewelry designer Alexa Kane is found dead in the locker room, Kate’s promising future screeches to a halt as her past resurfaces. Alexa played with Kate and Savannah on the U.S. Youth National Team, but there was no reason for her to be at the stadium now.Kate’s investigation puts her in close contact with her estranged father, an NYPD detective. As their secrets collide, Kate must decide which ones to keep and which to reveal to stop the killer. The story was interesting, and it was interesting to immerse yourself in the soccer world and the Olympics. I like Kate as a character. There were some slow parts, but overall, it was a solid read and a good story. I would read more by this author and in this series.#DangerousPlayKateGreenBand2 #NetGalley @AmazonPub

Good read! Praise for the book #DangerousPlay by #EliseHartKipness. Alexa and Kate were on the same competing soccer teams growing up. Kate has since played in the Olympics and is now a big time sports reporter. When Kate is covering the women’s Olympic Games, Alexa ends up there dead. Is this something to do with things that happened at the soccer camp years ago or is something else to blame

A Wildly Entertaining Thriller Set in the World of Olympic Women's Soccer From “the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat,” the line was Howard Cosell’s, the famous sports commentator from the 1950s until the 1980s, but it might as well have been Kate Green’s, the fictitious sports reporter in DANGEROUS PLAY, the second in the Kate Green series by Elise Hart Kipness.Kate, a former Olympic Soccer player, is on her home turf, covering the US Women’s Soccer Team during a New York City Olympics as it tries to make a comeback and win the Gold. Kate is looking to make her own comeback after a viral video imperiled her career and the hunt for a killer too close to home nearly cost her everything. But the team has been dogged by drama this year, with a controversial player, Quinn, who keeps making waves. And Kate has her own drama brewing below the surface as well. Her former teammate, and biggest rival, Savannah Baker is coaching the team.As if this weren’t enough, Kate stumbles across Savannah and the controversial player who have just discovered a body in the ice baths of the team locker room after a very satisfying win. And the body is that of another former teammate.Kate immediately turns to her estranged father, Liam, and the two form an uneasy alliance in the search for the murderer. In the process, Kate has to face some demons from her past. But Liam has some secrets too, which Kate is determined to uncover, despite multiple warnings to leave the past alone.Kipness brings her knowledge of sports broadcasting to this tightly-plotted and atmospheric thriller, by turns evoking the high-stakes stress of Olympic try-outs to the high-spirited exultation of a win on the world stage; from the opulence of a Yankee Stadium private box to the grittiness of the streets of Queens. This is a wildly entertaining thriller that sticks its landing. I can’t wait to read the next in the series!Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read an advance review copy.

I highly recommend if you like strong female detective stories. I loved the first in the series Lights Out, which was her debut.I loved this book, which is second in the series about the complicated Kate Green. She is a sports reporter who is gritty, emotional, head strong, determined and raw. Her past has been tough, but she is looking forward to her new assignment covering women’s Olympic soccer and hoping for a fresh start.Nothing like a murder, to bring reporters to the forefront. Alexa Kane is a famous designer who is found dead in the locker room. Kate knew Alexa from her time with the US youth national team. Why is she in the locker room?? She is not part of the team.Once again she is thrown into a investigation which involves her father, who is an NYPD detective. I hope this series continues. My colleagues and I at #thrillerbookloversthepulse are RAVING about this series. I highly recommend if you like strong female detective stories.

A fast-paced thriller Lights Out (Kate Green Book 1) by Elise Hart Kipness is a fast-paced thriller that follows a TV sports reporter’s entanglement with loyalty, duty and deception. The story takes place in present-day Greenwich, Connecticut.Kate Green, a divorced mother of teenage twins, is a former Olympic soccer athlete turned TV sports reporter. She’s been placed on temporary leave from her job because of an angry outburst she made to an NBA superstar.Kate’s world drastically changes when her best friend’s husband, Kurt Robbins, is shot and killed. Robbins was a much loved NBA basketball superstar. His wife, Yvette, is the prime suspect in her husband’s murder. Although the Robbins’ marriage was far from stable, Kate knows her friend is incapable of murder. As Kate becomes entangled in the mysterious circumstances, her own life careens out of control.Lights Out is a highly suspenseful mystery. I admire the author’s ability to put the reader into the thick of things. She does a good job of describing teenage angst, an adult’s reaction to an estranged parent, and the lives and attitudes of highly successful sports stars. I enjoyed this glimpse into the world of glitter while trying to second-guess the murderer of a superstar.

Good detective story Kate, a news reporter is best friends with Yvette. Yvette' s husband is a million dollar athlete, Kurt. Kurt has not been faithful to Yvette and is found shot to death. Of course the police target the spouse. Kate is determined to find the real killer. It could be Kurt' s brother, who always has financial problems. It could be Kurt' s mistress, or could it be Yvette?

She is determined to find the answers! Lights Out is the murder mystery debut novel by Ms. Kipness which I found engaging. I liked the premise of the story with the main character, Kate being the best friend of the victim who happened to be married to a famous NBA player. Kate may be just a sports journalist but she made it her mission to solve this case and follow her gut in order to prove her best friend’s innocence. What is didn’t enjoy about the story was all of the details that really didn’t add to the ultimate storyline and those details for me seemed to drag out the story a bit. Overall, however, I thought she built up the suspense and added enough characters that could have also been guilty to keep us guessing how it would all play out in the end.

Amateur Slueth This was an Amazon first read that I got. The story was good and had many episodes that one can relate to. An NBA basketball star is shot to death in his Greenwich home. Those closest to him become suspects. Kate green, a former athlete and suspended sports reporter, can’t see her friend as guilty and does some sleuthing to try and vindicate her. Kate has her own problems being a single Mom with two teenagers, a meddling ex and birth father who has suddenly reappeared to help solve the murder mystery. Being suspended from her job gives her the opportunity to do her sleuthing. Can her friend be guilty or is it the other woman? Many twists and turns. Moves at a slow pace. I did wonder about someone sneaking around, losing a shoe, and leaving it.

A new sleuth in here! Lights Out was full of characters who had issues as well as Kate Green, a former Olympic athlete and the main protagonist, tries to get her life together but finds that it is constantly tested with all kinds of negative issues that threaten not only her work but also her family.Kate’s best friend is a suspect when her famous husband, an NBA superstar, is murdered. Kate tries to help her friend but finds herself drawn into the drama surrounding this case, especially when her estranged father, a NY detective, is brought on the case. There are other suspects but the police do not veer from the main suspect, the wife, even though Kate finds overwhelming evidence against one other person. She finds her life is falling apart and is at odds with not only her friend but also her father who doesn’t trust her judgment in this case.An enjoyable read as Kate Green becomes quite a tenacious sleuth.

great read This story had a lot of twist and turns. It was well written. Kept you wondering the whole time. I would have liked more written about the Detective Bernard losing his job. That would have been a perfect epilogue. Readers will like this book. I hope this author has other books to read. I will look for one.

Sometimes your mind will not let go Kate just got suspended from her sports cast reporting for using profanity when arguing with a player. Her son Jackson was recovering from an overdose. What else could go wrong. While decorating for the upcoming Halloween dance, her best friend Yvette gets a call that there many cop cars and emergency personnel are at her home where she resides with her husband, Kurt Robbins . He has been murdered. This story has nonstop suspense and a pleasure to read.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN From the first page I couldn't put this book down. Never a dull moment in this story at all. Gripping and suspenseful. Just when I thought that I knew who the killer was another suspect came into play. So many emotions in this story. Parenthood, friendship, marriage, betrayal and broken hearts. I HIGHLY recommend this book and look forward to reading all the books to follow.

pretty good I got the free combo thru kindle unlimited. The audio was pretty bad. Got more ok as I wanted to finish the book, and liked it. That being said, some things / scenarios were repetitive and annoying. Good read/ listen overall.

Easy Read This is an easy book to get through but it’s relatively predictable. The writing is basic but it reads quickly. I think the “sports reporter who is the detective angle” is a bit silly. I also think she tried too hard to make a twist at the end. It was ok overall, but not sure if I’ll be reading the next book.

slow, then picked up I skimmed parts. Some of the details included were odd—not sure if they were supposed to be a distraction or were just simply fluff. But the resolution was pretty good.

Fast pace mystery and fun Admired the sincerity of her friendship and the investigation support in trying to prove her friend innocent. Divorced from a meat head and a great mom.

Gripping The whole story was excellent. But the end had me staying awake much longer than I intended. I'd like to another Liam story.

Nice read! I listened to the audiobook and I thought it was a cute story. It definitely had parts of suspense in the story line and had me on my toes. I think the beginning was a little drug out, but there were a lot of characters to introduce.

Well written series debut I genuinely enjoyed Kate Green. She's intelligent and smart with the kind of adrenaline temper that made her a competitive world class soccer player. While the story is fairly predictable, the red herrings are nicely distracting. One quibble, typically I will review a debut as being too long but this is about 30 pages too short. Looking forward to #2
